Unusual Ways For Using Your Trucker Cap

September 25, 2010 – The trucker cap has grown from a simple and sturdy hat to somewhat of a fashion icon.  In it’s most basic form, the trucker cap is like a blank slate on which you can create art.  This is the primary reason that they are so popular today.  There are still caps that are very simple and basic, but there are many more that have wild and intricate designs.  You can also find a style anywhere in between.  While the majority of trucker hats are worn for style reasons, there are some unique, alternative ways out there to use one.

The first, and simplest, way to uniquely use your trucker hat is for displaying an association with a group.  Let’s take an organization run as a non-profit business.  They can use the trucker cap in two ways.  First, it can display their mission or cause and give publicity to it.  Second, the hat can also be used to raise funds for the organization.  This same premise would also work well in a political situation with a candidate running for office.  The trucker hat allows them to display themselves and their message while also helping to raise funds to support the campaign.

In addition to giving publicity to certain groups or people, trucker caps can literally state a message.  By taking a blank cap and adding just text to it, the message becomes the focal point.  And by having people wear the cap in public a message will be displayed for all to see.  This would work well for local governments or boards where bills and referendums are voted on.  To garner support, the bill’s name and some text telling what it is about can be displayed on a trucker cap.  This is definitely a unique way to use a cap and is pretty rare to see.

The most unique way to utilize a trucker hat is as a cork board or bulletin board.  This comes simply from the fact that you can stick things into your cap and not damage it.  The most common example of this is the fisherman.  Instead of carrying a tackle box to hold lures, the fisherman just sticks them right in his trucker cap using the hook.  Another great thing to stick into your cap are buttons.  The pin of the button easily slides through the foam of the hat and the hat is sturdy enough to hold even the largest buttons.  In this sense, trucker hats and buttons are a perfect match.  This is also an area to be creative in.  Anything with a pin or hook can be added to a trucker cap.

Exploring all of the different trucker caps available can be very fun.  Some styles are so uniquely designed it’s mind blowing.  But there are more to trucker hats then just a fancy design.  As discussed here, these hats are a great way to give publicity to a person, group, or message.  There is also an opportunity to get very creative with your cap.  Buttons and lures are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to customization.  Remember that a trucker cap in it’s most basic form is like a blank canvas on which you can create anything.
